On this day in 1903, the first sighting of the Mogollon Monster, aka Arizona’s Bigfoot, was reported in the Arizona Republican. In his account, I.W. Stevens describes the creature as a seven foot tall humanoid with long reddish brown hair and an odor reminiscent of dead fish. He states that he came across the creature near the Grand Canyon whist it was drinking the blood of two cougars. It then brandished a club to threaten him and “screamed the wildest, unearthly screech.”
