Oregon and Arizona become states in 1859 and 1912 respectively. In 1849 James Polk becomes the first President to be photographed. And on February 13-14, the schooner Lady Lovibond wrecks on the Goodwin Sands off the south east coast of England, reappearing every fifty years to reenact it’s demise as a ghostly apparition.
