On this day in 1989, a group of Russian children in Voronezh witnessed a deep red orb, 3 meters in diameter, flying around the park they played in. The craft landed and a “three-eyed alien” emerged wearing bronze boots and wielding a ray gun. The alien used the weapon on one of the children, temporarily making them disappear.

Though the children were the only ones to see the alien, the craft was observed by numerous witnesses around the city. The case received so much publicity that the area became known as the “Land of Aliens” and guided tours were offered.
