On this day in 1934, newly minted public enemy number one and last remaining member of the Dillinger Gang, Lester Gillis, AKA “Baby Face Nelson”, is mortally wounded in a brutal fire fight with FBI agents. Surviving long enough to escape the scene, his body is later deposited by his wife in a ditch outside a funeral home.
