On this day in 2010, flight attendant Steven Slater was having a bad day. After a verbal altercation with an abusive passenger, Slater decided he’d had enough. He cursed out the rude passenger over the PA system, grabbed two beers from the drink cart, deployed the emergency slide, and slid down to the tarmac. Quickly realizing that he’d forgotten his luggage, Slater scrambled back up the chute, retrieved his bags, and slid down again becoming an instant folk hero.
