In 1815 Mount Tambora erupts killing 71k and causing a global volcanic winter, in 1963 the atomic submarine USS Thresher sinks with its entire crew, and in 1912 Violet Jessop boards the RMS Titanic on its maiden and final voyage. Jessop famously survived the sinking of all three “unsinkable” sister ships, Titanic, Britannic, and Olympic.
